Welcome to The Story Tender!
My name is Kim and I am The Story Tender.
I love books and I love writing! I also know how expensive it can be for authors to publish their books, books that need to be shared with the world. And that is why I created The Story Tender. I want to help you tend to this beautiful baby that you have cared for and written. And I want to help you do it in an affordable way. So take a look around and see if The Story Tender can help you bring your book to the world!
Why work with The Story Tender?
I have an almost obsessive love of the written word! That is something that anyone who knows me can attest to. I love to read and I love to write. I also love being able to offer quality services at affordable prices to other authors and see those authors reach their own dreams.
I have lots of experience and it is varied. I was in the United States Army for almost 14 years as a Signals Intelligence Analyst and linguist in Vietnamese and Polish. During my time in the Army, I wrote countless documents of a sensitive nature and was responsible for the writing and editing of scores of Standard Operating Procedures. I’ve also worked as the Executive Assistant to the head of the St. Lawrence University University Communications department. One of my primary responsibilities was to write, edit, and publish a wide range of materials. I also worked as a technical writer for Corning Glass Works, writing tech documents and white pages for the Forming and Finishing departments, as well as editing the work of those who worked for me. I have also done a lot of freelance writing and editing for both fiction and nonfiction. My degree is a BA in Creative Writing and Literature from SUNY Empire State College in New York and I graduated with a 3.97 GPA.
I read many genres, both fiction and nonfiction, so I am willing to work on any type of manuscript. I also work with academic papers, although that isn’t my main focus. I do, however, reserve the right to refuse a manuscript. Because I am not perfect, if for any reason you are not satisfied, I am more than willing to work with you to make it right.
My Editing Philosophy
I believe that an editor’s job is to help “tend” an author’s words, not to change their voice. I take this very seriously. I also believe in constructive feedback, rather than harshness. And since I am such an avid reader and a writer myself, I also tend to offer “reader” comments along the way.
Ultimately, the choice to make changes is yours and yours alone. After all, it is YOUR story to tell!
